You can find the "Living Waters" of Waikite Valley Thermal Pools half way between Taupo and Rotorua, just 10 minutes off State Highway 5 and you are on your way to our geothermal paradise. We are predominately a natural thermal bathing complex. We use the word natural in the sense that water for the pools comes straight out of the boiling Te Manaroa geothermal spring. It is then cooled before cascading into our Splash pool, Sit 'n' Soak pool, and our brand new Tranquil Garden pool. We also have 2 private pools where the temperature is controlled by you! The water is not treated with any chemicals whatsoever nor is it filtered or recycled into the pools again in any way. Waikite Valley's Living Waters is the only pool complex of this size in New Zealand, using 100% pure natural geothermal water.
We also have a short Eco-Trail that is of both geological and botanical interest. This educational walk takes you up to the Te Manaroa Spring, the largest single source of boiling water in NZ. Along the way you will pass by ferns and mosses that are unique only to a few geothermal areas in the southern Rotorua area.
Of particular interest is the rare Christella Fern which not only grows in and around these geothermal areas but is also found in the rainforests of South America. This means that this special fern species survived the continental split of Gondwanaland!
After enjoying the heated pools and the eco-trail, relax and enjoy our Kiwi Cuisine from our fully licensed 'Pukeko in a Ponga Tree Caf, open from 12 noon most days. We are also available for group bookings as we have a spacious outdoor seating area and the covered patio of the caf looks out over the pools and out onto the Waikite Valley beyond. Adjoining the pool complex is a 20 site campground with shower, laundry & kitchen facilities. Because we are so handy to other attractions in the area, we are an ideal spot for those passing through traveling by van or those who are tenting.
