Passing our forever changed city we climb to the rim of Lyttelton Volcano to see the township and Harbour of Lyttelton, also badly affected by the February Earthquake. It is from here as the Banks Peninsular reveals its magnificent bays and the renowned Akaroa Harbour that we can compare the effect of the Earthquake on our rural as opposed to urban areas, the beauty of this rural vista and the distant and remote Southern Alps remains unchanged and possibly unrivalled! An optional picnic is also available on a remote beach and donation of $10.00 per person for all passengers on this flight will be given in support of the Christchurch Mayoral relief
