At Dante's, we invite you to experience a pizza born centuries ago in Naples, Italy, where food is crafted with skill, care & the freshest of ingedients. Our recipe is quite literally defined in Italy as the perfect pizza. Nearly all of our ingredients are imported directly from Italy to provide you with true Italian flavor.
Dante's is the FIRST and ONLY pizzeria in New Zealand to receive membership into the prestigious culinary institute Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana (VPN). A rigorous certification process is required by any establishment wishing to serve this delicious dish which is why Dante's is one of only 276 worldwide to have achieved the incredibly strict standards set forth by the association. The right to cook & sell the tightly regulated form of the Neapolitan pizza requires not just a deep knowledge of the process but also the commitment to swap modern technology that would make the production easier and cheaper, for the time honoured way of manual hand-skill. Our certified pizzaioli (pizza chef) artistically prepares each pizza to order, by hand. Nothing but a brick oven can seal in all the authentic Italian flavor. Reaching temperatures in excess of 800 degrees, pizzas are fully cooked in an unbelievable 90 seconds or less! It may be fast, but one bite and you'll know it's anything but fast food.
Fearful that the traditional pizza would soon be lost to cheaper ingredients and faster methods, a group of faithful Neapolitan pizza makers formed an association to preserve the authentic Neapolitan pizza and so the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana was born. In 1984 with the support of the Italian government a long list of exacting specifications was created to formally define this perfect pizza & it was legally granted D.O.C (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) status.
